Installation, representativeSub Rang means all the colours. Hamail Art Gallery painted its walls black and white for the week, and the canvases did the rest. Samar Fatima, reviewing for Dawn, described women frozen mid-movement in joyful dance, their ghagras and cholis merging into the air around them.
The review named the four dances of Tharparkar that the paintings depict, dandan rand, mitko, chakkar rand and rasooro, and read the chequered strokes as the ralli quilt extended beyond the bodies into the surrounding space. Asked why the paintings were so joyful, the artist said it was because he was.
