Colours of Life was the first full showing of the dance paintings in Lahore. Noor Jehan Mecklai, writing in The Friday Times, singled out two canvases in which light falls from above onto a solo dancer, and read them as an image of Sufi union with the Divine.

She also noted the desert sand stylised as it is stirred by dancing feet, the arm movements filling the negative space of an archway, and a gesture or two that recalled classical kathak. It was in this interview that the artist said he had started doodling at the age of nine.
